A Different Kind of Sting
By Jenny Peters
Exclusive to the Port Alexander Times

PA's newest super-powered defender isn't Defender, it's Sting.

Our interview started with a bang when he appeared seeminly out of nowhere in a meeting room at the Times. Was he invisible, did he teleport? No, he shrinks. But that's not all. In his own words, "At the risk of giving the enemies of Port Alexander a scouting report, I can tell you about the abilities that I've so far manifest publicly. I'm stronger and faster than human ... I couldn't tell you if I'm the strongest man in town, but I doubt it ... but I'm certainly stronger than your average bear, and faster than your average Volkswagen Bug. However, I guess you can figure out there's more to it than that ... otherwise I would be Strong and Fast guy instead of Sting, right?" He also packs some kind of vibratory energy blast that he calls his Sting.

I asked Sting why he chose to don a mask and fight crime, he replied, "When you have powers, you can't just not use them...you either use them to help, or to serve yourself. Serving myself has never been my style." To which I can only say, "Bravo."

This interview took place a few days before the announcement of the formation of the Protectors, of which group Sting is a member. He told me that he felt fortunate that there are other heroes of the caliber of Defender and the Wanderer to work with in Port Alexander. I can say that many of us feel the same way, and are glad to add Sting to the list.

Sting was oddly reticent on the subject of the MUSE-V incident. He would say only that an investigation is under way. With the Protectors on the case, I'm sure it will be resolved soon.

The people of Port Alexander should never forget that there are people beneath the masks. When I asked him about his life, he replied, "If I didn't have someone special in my life to protect, I wouldn't need to wear a mask." A sobering reminder of just what these heroes risk to protect the rest of us.
