Interlude Fourteen point Two, Chatting on the Phone

A couple of days after the fight in the office, during dinner time naturally, an electronic ring chimed causing Alden to excuse himself. "Mmm-mmm-mmm donuts and ketchup, what are you having?" said the familiar voice of The Wanderer.

"You really work at that sort of timing, don't you?" Alden's voice had become deeper upon picking up Defender's communicator. "How may I be of assistance?"

"Timing is everything," he quipped. "Jenny Peters, that little spitfire from the Port-A Times, has asked me to ask you and our winged friend to schedule a sit down interview. She's a wonderful conversation, even if she does have an aversion to tarantulas. At least I think she does, but that isn't important." The Wanderer rattled on for another minute before posing the question to Defender.

Defender mentally considered his schedule. He was becoming popular lately. Secret agencies, police departments and now the media. He chuckled to himself. This was a side of the hero life he had not considered. And one that would take some getting used to.

"Let me talk to my partner and see how he wants to play it. Personally, I have no problems talking to her. However, Ka-sador can be a little camera shy. I'll give him a call and let you know shortly. Any word from White Knight about the gizmo?"

"Not yet," answered the Wanderer. "The White Knight works at his own pace. All those Oohs and Ahhs over the flashy blinky stuff that is gears and buttons takes time, you know."

The Wanderer could be heard chatting off the phone, of course there was no voice heard responding.

"Well, I must be going. Let me know when you can fit Miss Peters in, she's quite the fun chat." And with that, the Wanderer hung up.

Alden returned to the dining room where Mara was describing various Earth meal rituals to their two house guests. When he sat back at the table, she asked, "Nothing Earth shattering, I hope?"

Alden shook his head. "Nothing of pressing importance. Turns out a certain reporter wants to interview my new partner and me. I have no problems with it myself. How about you, partner?"

Alden turned to 'Starski' and smiled.

Ka-sador smiled at his 'earth' name, but then turned very cautious. The translator around Alden's neck began to do it's work, "I am very sorry Alden, but Ka-sador and M'Krell are targets for the Krai Empire. We know they are here on your planet and will stop at nothing to reacquire the Princess. Were I to grant such a request it could impact our safety severely."

The winged alien walked over to where M'Krell sat, "I must remain as invisible as possible. M'Krell's safety is of the utmost importance. I hope you understand."

"I understand, my friend." Alden nodded in sympathy. "In fact, that was pretty much the answer I expected. I just didn't want to answer for you. Don't worry, I'll protect your secret."

Later, after dinner and an hour or so of good conversation, Alden returned the Wanderer's call. He made arrangements for the interview for just himself. His aim was to try and get the interview done prior to the SuperCon. After all, he hated the idea of showing up and no one knowing him.
